Reviews Overview

Most Liked

The standout here is undoubtedly the batter - light, crispy, and never greasy, which enhances the fresh taste of the fish. Numerous reviewers rave about the portion sizes, emphasizing that the servings are generous and satisfying. The inclusion of Irish curry as a side dish also receives high marks for its unique flavor. And the mushy peas? They are widely regarded as perfectly seasoned and a delightful addition to the meal. Patrons appreciate the friendly service; it's not uncommon for the staff to engage in uplifting conversations while preparing food. Overall, the blend of quality, quantity, and customer interaction sets Neil's Friery apart as a local favorite.

Most Disliked

Some diners express frustration over the cash-only payment policy, which can be inconvenient in today's digital age. While the service is generally praised, a few customers note that wait times can be longer during busy hours, primarily because everything is cooked to order. This commitment to freshness can feel like a drawback when you're in a hurry. Limited vegetarian offerings on the main menu also leave some patrons wishing for more plant-based options. Additionally, while the traditional atmosphere is charming for many, others may expect a more modern vibe in dining environments. Nonetheless, these aspects do not seem to overshadow the overall positive experiences of most visitors.

On our trip to Manchester, we looked forward to having property English fish and chips. Our friends to us to Neil's Friery, and they didn't disappoint!! It was amazing! Real, fresh cut potatoes make the best chips! The fish was fresh, and the batter was light and tasty. We ended up going back again the next week for more! The mushy peas were excellent, and we tried the Irish curry the second time we went. So good!! They asked us where we were from, and when we said Canada, they asked us how are fish and chips were. We explained how it was and what sides came with it. Very different but still good. Nothing like England, though! Definitely try this place if you ever get to Manchester!!

Beat fish and chips in the area. Fish is crispy from the outside, fresh and soft inside it melts in the mouth. Big portions. First time tried Irish curry and it did not disappoint. Lovely. And service is friendly. Lady at the counter is a great sales person. Will definitely order again if near by.

Since moving to Salford this has been the best takeaway in the area! They fought against price increases for as long as possible but even with the recent minor increase it is still the best value and quality around with generous portion sizes. Happy to support such an amazing local business! :)

Absolutely fantastic chippy. Fish and chips were some of the best I’ve had, and the Irish curry sauce was great. Great value too at £8.80 for the mini fish deal, staff were lovely, highly recommend!
